Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane Season is June 1st through November 30th
It is never too early to prepare!

Don’t wait until a storm threatens; early planning is essential. To access general information through the Manatee County website, click here. Obtain a copy of the current disaster guide, preparation information for seniors, emergency kit checklists, preparing your pets for emergencies and other helpful information.

Registry for Residents with Special Needs
The Special Needs Registry is designed to assist residents of Manatee County who will require transportation or sheltering assistance when the citizens are notified to evacuate their residences because of a storm. You may need to evacuate your home from a pending hurricane if you are power dependent or live in an evacuation zone or in a mobile home. Residents are encouraged to use public sheltering only if no other options exist.

If you need evacuation transportation or require sheltering assistance, you must preregister. The application and checklists are available through the County. (Click here). Annual registration is required. Once registered, you will automatically receive an application for renewal approximately 60 days prior to your birthday.

CodeRED Weather Warnings

Sign up for the CodeRED Emergency Notification System to receive notifications generated by government and public safety officials. You will receive CodeRED alerts for emergency updates such as evacuation notices, boil water advisories, weather warnings, and hazardous traffic or road conditions. You can opt to receive notifications by phone call, text or email.

A CodeRED Emergency message will have a caller ID of 866-419-5000. A CodeRED General message will have a caller ID 855-969-4636. It is suggested you program both numbers in your cell phone as a “new contact” and use “CodeRED Emergency” and “CodeRED General” as the contact name. If you need to replay the emergency notification message again, simply dial the number and you will be able to hear the message again. Click here for more information and sign up.
